My Cebu Adventure: Magellan's Cross

Finally I was able to tour Cebu last June 1, 2011. I tagged along hubby on his 2nd business trip to the Queen City of the South. I will be posting the photos in batches for it to be more organized.

Magellan's Cross
After having breakfast at Chowking Fuente Circle, the hubby and I parted ways and I started my journey thru history. My first stop was Magellan's Cross. It was fairly easy to find it since I was able to download a map of the city from the internet. The taxi driver was very helpful and even gave me tips on how to best start my tour.

Upon reaching the site, I felt proud that I was able to arrive at my destination without any companion. The last time I went on a journey alone was when I visited my aunt in the US back in 1996. Here is the first batch of photos I took to document my latest conquest.

This is the site of the cross. The exact site of where Ferdinand Magellan  planted the cross.

A more dramatic shot of the site.
The Cross of Magellan
Many tourists (local and foreign) flocked inside the site. I had a difficult time taking a photo of the cross without people posing near it.
Finally, no more humans. :)
Upon reading this, it instantly sent shivers down my spine.

Another view of the cross. I wanted to lie on the ground to take a better photo of the cross with the paintings on the dome. But I was afraid people might escort me outside the site.

According to Cebuanos, as part of tradition, local women would offer you 5 candles and they will pray for your family in front of the cross. It is said to bring your family prosperity, good fortune, good health, happiness and peace.
The last photo I took of the cross. Somehow, visiting the site made me feel fulfilled since this is the site of the beginning of Christianity in the Philippines.
